In contemporary Russian historiography, ambiguous opinions have been formed on the issue of the relationship between former noble landowners and peasants in the 1920s, which confi rms the controversial nature of the issue under study. In the real situation of the 1920s, there were both good-neighborly and confl icting relations between peasants and their former landlords. However, in general, the attitude of the peasants towards them was mostly negative. It was the spread of such radical moods that eventually led to the eviction of many former noble landowners from their places of permanent residence. As a result, the activities for their eviction were intensifi ed in the mid-1920s, which is confi rmed by archival materials. This was due both to the activity of the new Soviet government, and to the desire of most of the peasants to free themselves from the neighborhood of their hated oppressors.
