The author points out that one of the aspects of emotional intelligence actualization is its adaptive function. The author reveals the possibilities of using the abilities of emotional intelligence in the process of adapting students to the university learning environment. The author presents the results of an empirical research on descriptive statistics of emotional intelligence and personal adaptive potential, as well as the correlation of these psychological constructs. The questionnaire “Adaptiveness” by A.G. Maklakov, S.V. Chermyanin and N. Hall's methods of studying emotional intelligence were used as diagnostic tools. The variability of positive correlations between the components of emotional intelligence and the structural components of the personal adaptive potential proves that emotional intelligence is significantly expressed in the adaptive abilities of students. The main correlates of these abilities are emotional awareness and empathy.
