Relationship between type of temperament, strength of psychological defence mechanisms and level of internality in female 1st year students

The article presents the result of an empirical study of the relationship between temperament type, psychological defence intensity and internality. Approximately 82 first-year female students from Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management were sampled. The questionnaire for determining the level of subjective control was applied to them, revealing general internalism (Ig) and examining the relationship between this indicator and the type of temperament. The Life Style Index questionnaire was used to identify psychological defences and their overall intensity was calculated. During statistical data processing, non-parametric Kruskal - Wallis criteria, Mann - Whitney U-criterion, SSPS statistics 20 package were applied. As a result of comparative analysis, it was found that choleric people had a significantly higher level of overall psychological defence intensity than other types of temperament, while internality was more prevalent in sanguine people. The results allow us to predict a female student's psychological defence intensity and internalizing nature, knowing their temperament type.
