Background. Up to 50% of the teenage population experience the effects of smoking in the early years of life, becoming “passive smokers”, which subsequently leads on their part to an earlier development of somatic, mental and psychosomatic pathology. Results. The article presents the results of a prospective clinical and sociological study of the adult population of Baku and the results of a survey of primary, secondary and senior schoolchildren according to a personally developed questionnaire about smoking of their parents, the data of an analysis of outpatient records in children's clinics are discussed. It has been established that, despite a wide anti-tobacco campaign, in 34.6±1.0% of families of Baku residents, schoolchildren continue to be exposed to smoking by their parents, which is detrimental to their somatic and mental health. Due to the passive smoking of children in these families, the medical circulation of schoolchildren in children's clinics increases 1.95 times and their incidence rate increases 1.35 times. In cases where parents smoke more than 15 cigarettes per day, this level reaches a maximum level of 79.8±2.5%. Conclusions. Extensive outreach work among parents on risk factors for the health and harmonious development of children - passive smokers is needed.
