Introduction. Currently, more and more people are prone to postponing their lives “for later”. This phenomenon has acquired the name “deferred life syndrome”. The problem of deferred life among students and young people, although relevant, still remains little covered in the literature. In the modern information world, there is a wide variety of views on the phenomenon itself, which often leads to the incorrect use of key concepts in the professional psychological environment. Theoretical analysis of the literature. Deferred life syndrome (DLS) is a relatively new concept in modern psychology. One of the first descriptions of the phenomenon in our country was proposed by V. P. Serkin in the 90s of the last century as a result of a comprehensive study of the psychological characteristics of those who live in the northern regions and dream of moving to the southern regions. As noted by various authors, deferred life syndrome is a set of life scenarios in which an individual sincerely and often unconsciously becomes convinced that he is only preparing for real life, postponing it for later. Most experts do not consider the phenomenon of deferred life syndrome to be a psychological or mental disorder, but they recognize that it can contribute to the development of neuroses, depression and other similar conditions that inevitably lead to a deterioration in the quality of life.
