In the modern world, there is a growing interest in the topic of a foreign student's readiness for future professional activity, which directly depends on the level of motivation for learning and the characteristics of socio-psychological adaptation. The purpose of the study is to identify the relationship between educational motivation and the features of the process of socio-psychological adaptation of Vietnamese students studying at a Russian university. The object of the study is the process of adaptation of Vietnamese students in a Russian university. The subject is the relationship between academic motivation and the peculiarities of the adaptation process of Vietnamese students in a Russian university. The study involved 144 Vietnamese 1st and 3rd year students studying at the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. The descriptive method, methods of categorization, analysis, comparison, questionnaire method, as well as the test of external and internal motivation (X) were used as the methodology of the subject area of research in this article. Sievert), the methodology of the multilevel personality questionnaire “Adaptivity” (A.G. Maklakov, S.V. Chermyanin). The results of the study allow us to conclude that the nature of motivation (external or internal) determines the success of the process of socio-psychological adaptation of Vietnamese students in a Russian university.
