G. Shpet's views on the philosophical and historical heritage of G. Bolingbroke

This paper examines G. Shpet’s views from his work “History as a Problem of Logic", relating to the scientific heritage of the 18th century English thinker G. Bol-ingbroke. The Russian thinker's assessment of both the historical and philosophical content of G. Boling-broke's works is analyzed. The conclusion of G. Shpet that G. Bolingbroke wrote his works under the influence of the works of F.M. Voltaire is questioned, and the results of modern historical research on this issue are presented. The study also examines both the methodological attitudes of G. Bolingbroke and the assessment of them by the Russian thinker of the Silver Age. The author substantiates G. Shpet’s choice of the scientific heritage of G. Bolingbroke as the most prominent representative of the historical and philosophical thought of the English Enlightenment.
