Ivan Vasilyevich Kireevsky set the task of formulating new holistic knowledge based on the experience of the Holy Fathers and modern philosophy, but passed away without realizing it. This task, as is known, was accomplished by Alexei Stepanovich Khomyakov, Kireevsky’s associate, an outstanding secular theologian. Besides him, this task was tackled by their contemporary, representative of academic theology, Archpriest Fyodor Fyodorovich Sidonsky who performed the funeral service for I. V. Kireevsky in the Kazan Cathedral. The speech delivered by Father Theodore at Kireevsky’s coffin testifies that he was familiar with the works of the late philosopher and even personally communicated with him. The article presents comparative analysis of theological writings of S. Khomyakov and Archpriest F. F. Sidonsky in the perspective of implementing the task set out by I.V. Kireevsky. He emphasized the importance of personal religious experience. And, since both Khomyakov and Fr. Theodore had academic degrees and exemplified a worthy Christian life, their theological works are of special value.
