Replacement of laryngeal defect at extended operations on thyroid gland

We propose an original method of radical operation on thyroid gland for locally-advanced cancer with resection of thyroid cartilage fragment and simultaneous replacement of laryngeal defect with polypropylene net. The efficacy of the method lies in opportunity to perform simultaneously radical removal of tumour of thyroid gland with affected laryngeal cartilage and restoration of laryngeal integrity without tracheostome application. Use of polypropylene net for defect replacement provides the opportunity to perform radiotherapy in time and in full extent, to prevent cicatrical stenosis of larynx, and to restore natural functions of larynx in the shortest period of time, thus improving the patients quality of life.
