Birth and development of the system of pedagogical education in Russia (end of 18 th - beginning of 20 th centuries)

The article presents facts and events which characterize a complicated and controversial process of the formation of Russian system of pedagogical education covering the period from the emergence in 1779 Russia’s first teachers’ seminary organized by Moscow University through the year 1917 when there was already in Russia a broad enough system of educational institutions of different types which trained teachers and mentors for a dynamically developing cultural and educational sph ere of the country. The article tells of main types of educational institutions and the content of pedagogical training of teachers; shows the role of historico-pedagogical experience in solving modern problems pf vocationa; pedagogical training.
