The article presents an analysis of barriers to the implementation of ESD in education abroad. Specialists emphasize the vagueness of conceptual and terminological apparatus ESD, optional status of education for sustainable development, its unsystematic. The article notes the importance of developing the theory of ESD and technology of its interaction with academic subjects. The authors set the problem of «sensitivity» of content ESD to the national and cultural content of the country.
