Rostselmash agricultural machinery plant: urban planning analysis and the main architectural and artistic characteristics of the object

The construction, establishment and rapid development of the Rostov Agricultural Machinery Plant is a bright page in the history of our Motherland. The Rostselmash plant is one of the oldest and largest machine-building enterprises in Russia. This industrial facility is an integral part of the architectural and spatial environment of the city of Rostov-on-Don. Being compositional dominants, this complex forms the building of the streets of the city. The plant has a whole complex of industrial buildings and structures, warehouse buildings and public buildings. It was this industrial complex that played one of the key roles in the industrial development of Rostov-on-Don and gave impetus to the beginning of industrialization of the Don Region. The giant combine plant was launched during industrialization and collectivization in 1929 and became the first giant plant envisaged by the five-year plan for the reconstruction of Russian industry, and is a vivid example of the policy of bringing a large industrial base under the socialist reconstruction of agriculture. Rostselmash started with the production of agricultural machinery for collective farms and state farms and simultaneously passed all the key stages of the development of the USSR and the modern history of Russia. It was believed that the productivity of this giant of agricultural machinery surpassed the productivity of the largest enterprises of its kind in capitalist countries. The article is devoted to the identification of the main architectural and artistic characteristics of the Rostselmash plant and its role in the functional and territorial development of the city of Rostov-on-Don. The compositional and stylistic solution and architectural and artistic design of the facades of all buildings of the development complex were revealed, as well as an urban planning analysis of the territory of the complex was carried out. It was these aspects that made the object unique and interesting in its own way.
