The paper attempts to evaluate Jean Reyor's activities while he edited the journal “Etudes Tradi-tionnelles” (“Traditional Studies”). It is demonstrated that in interpreting the legacy of his teacher Rene Guenon, Jean Reyor constantly had to confront the misconceptions widespread in the 1950s. On the one hand, Guenon was accused of social conservatism, irreconcilable anti-modernism and anti-liberalism. On the other hand, the version about Guenon as a theosophist, an adherent of a certain trend of Hinduism or Islam is still being discussed. Jean Reyor's research is convincing in affirmation that the issue of the origins of the single tradition doctrine goes beyond the discussion of hypothetical borrowings from external sources. He consistently defends the initiatory nature of the doctrine of a single primordial tradition, which brings his interpretation closer to the ideas of religious universalism and integral humanism.
