Gender studies are one of the most rapidly developing areas of modern humanities, which allow us to study familiar phenomena through the prism of gender identity and representation. This paper presents the experience of studying the activities of womens public organizations in the Russian Federation at the turn of the XX-th-XXI-st centuries, using the example of the activities of the Womens Union of Dagestan. During the study, empirical, statistical data were analyzed, field and archival materials were used, as well as scientific literature on various aspects of the problem. The results obtained allow us to say that during this period, women of Dagestan, and Russia as a whole, significantly transformed their gender status, and the public organizations they created resolved social, economic and cultural issues that were beyond the power of other public associations, which contributed to the stabilization of the situation in republic. The presented material is the first attempt to assess the role and significance of womens associations in this region in the specified period in the context of gender history.
