Housing strategies of Moscow youth

The purpose of the article is to analyze the housing strategies of young people living in the city of Moscow. The study provides data reflecting the level of housing provision in Russia and the world, the specifics of the distribution and availability of real estate in Moscow are indicated. Concerns are expressed related to the vulnerability of Moscow youth arising from the high cost of apartments and their small area. The empirical part of the article focuses on young people’s perception of their own housing situation. The majority of respondents strive to improve their living conditions, mainly relying on their own abilities. Boys and girls are ready to look for a new job and part-time work, aiming at buying an apartment or a house as soon as possible. The nature of respondents’ perceptions of “ideal housing” is determined. The author's interpretation of the most significant characteristics of real estate is presented. The low awareness of young people about state programs for the acquisition of real estate, as well as a low degree of trust in the state in this matter are identified as risk factors.
