Role of mediation procedure in resolving contentious relations in the field of gas supply in the Russian Federation

The article analyzes the possibility and necessity of using the institute of mediation in contentious relations in the field of gas supply in Russia. The article is aimed at identifying the role of mediation in contentious relations in the field of gas supply. We have used analysis and synthesis as methods of research. The analysis of scientific literature, case history, and media shows that the courts are overloaded with disputes in the field of gas supply (1,500 court cases in the period from September 1, 2019 to October 1, 2021). So, we have come to the conclusion that on the back of the workload of courts with cases and appeals of citizens, the excessive workload experienced by court staff as an alternative way of settling disputes, mediation procedure is necessary in Russia. The role of mediation procedure in contentious relations in the field of gas supply is very important. The results of our study can be useful for experts in gas supply, mediators and judicial officials.
