Бесплатный доступ

The paper presents materials on the study and development of the northernmost European bison population. The work describes the history of research work on the protected species biology. The authors show the approach to organizing the joint work for realizing the issues and global challenges for biodiversity protection. The article indicates that a successful joint work of authorities, science and business as well as the developed regulatory documents and programs for animal protection form the basis for the positive acclimatization of European bison in the North of the European part of Russia. In addition, a favorable food supply, climatic conditions, and safe animal protection make it possible for a group of large ungulates to exist, which present the gene pool bank for improving cattle breeds. Meanwhile, there are some negative points of this topic. Taking into account the totality of favourable possibilities for European bison in the Vologda region, a successful implementation of the necessary biotechnical measures and scientific research is to allow for the further improvement of the northern group of European bison.
