The paper reveals the biography of Pyotr Yakimovich Oskolkov, a native of Lena Volost, Yarensk Uyezd, a representative of a well-known merchant dynasty, a participant in the development of Siberia and the Far East in the XVII century, and an administrator at the Albazin prison. A decisive role in his fate was played by a chance: P. Ya. Oskolkov was unwittingly involved in the murder of the Ilim voivode L. A. Obukhov, and therefore fled to the Amur region, where he became a prominent administrator who headed the southeastern outpost of Russia, the Albazin prison.
