The implementation of the axiological approach in modern Russian education involves the study of promising practices for the formation of value orientations as one of the ways to actualize the axiological component of Russian school history textbooks. In this regard, the American school textbook of World history of the Medieval Period is of interest since the existing system of multicultural education in the United States is based on the affirmation of the values of multiculturalism. Based on the analysis of the textbook texts of the American publishing house “McDougal Littell”, it is revealed that the setting of the compilers of textbooks to form the value orientations of students is realized in the aggregate of additional materials that accompany the generally axiologically indifferent subject material of textbooks. Based on the analysis of the content of additional materials, the value orientations being formed, determined by the ideas of multiculturalism, and the main way of their formation, which consists in identifying the connection of historical events with the life realities of modern society, are established. The possibilities of using the practice of value orientations to actualize the axiological potential of the history textbook of the Medieval Period are determined.
