The article examines the current practice of independent assessment of the quality of higher education at the intra-university, state, public-professional and international levels. A comparative analysis of the concepts of “independent assessment”, “internal assessment”, “external assessment’ of the quality of higher education is carried out. The possibilities of universities for an objective assessment of the achieved results in the areas of quality of training of students and the conditions created for the implementation of educational activities are revealed. Various types of independent assessment of the quality of education in the university are described. It is concluded that the indicators and criteria used in assessing the quality of higher education need to be clarified and refined.
