The article analyses the main reasons for mistakes made by students of training courses in Chinese universities when writing essays in English. An overview of the most common morphological, lexical, syntactic and mistakes in the construction of the text is given. The main reasons for Chinese students to make such mistakes creating written text in English are analyzed. Among them are the following ones, such as interlanguage interference, insufficient attention of school teachers to the formation of students' skills in working with texts, lack of linguistic flair. In order to develop students' sensitivity to the similarities and differences between Chinese and English, the author suggests using the method of comparative analysis. A large number of written exercises will allow students to remember the rules of lexical combination of words, to understand the patterns of building sentences and making up phrases in English. When teaching a foreign language, the author recommends focusing on reading texts, and not on learning vocabulary. This will allow students to understand the logic of the entire text, connect phrases and sentences together. Moreover, it will help to gradually overcome the interfering influence of the Chinese language in the process of learning writing in English.
