The article deals with the concept of the phraseological euphemism and pragmatic peculiarities of the English phraseological euphemisms of the thematic group INSANITY. There are described the functions of these language units both in the synchronous and diachronic aspects. The basic methods of study are the semantic analysis of the dictionary definitions and the analysis of the associated contextual information.
