Analysis of the video game Township to facilitate the learning of primary school children

This article proposes an innovative look towards the learning of the classic areas of the primary level. An analysis of the Township video game is carried out, which simulates the construction of complete cities, the management of the agro-economy, population growth and time management. It is a video game that concentrates the attention of children and young people, and it is also possible to consider it as a promoter of work in the classroom, generating a rich variety of different didactic proposals. The methodology followed has been the study of grounded theory to analyze didactic proposals designed by primary school teacher students and their implementation with primary level students for learning mathematics, natural and social sciences. These future teachers have planned as an activity for the study of the Didactics and curriculum, didactic proposals based on the Township video game, from which contents of the mentioned areas are addressed. These activities imply the participation of families since part of the exploration of the video game must be carried out at home. The results obtained show the impact of this pedagogy not only in the cognitive aspect, but also in cooperative and collaborative work, as well as the involvement of the family. The information obtained has been positive regarding the use of the game as a learning resource, especially the Township video game. Its educational potential has been highlighted, stimulating the processes of motivation, attention and problem solving.
