The article presents a critical analysis of E. R. Dodds' book “The Greeks and the Irrational” (Berkeley, Los Angeles, London: University of California Press, 1951) in the context of his own vision of the problem of the origin of ancient Greek poetry and philosophy, recycling the images and practices of archaic shamanism as cultural-historical preconditions. The author's interpretation of ethnogenesis, glottogenesis and culturogenesis in their conjugation as applied to the archaic Proto-Indo-Europeans, Proto-Indo-Aryans and Proto-Indo-Iranians is substantiated. The author's notion of “speech-myth” was concretized on the basis of the notion of “Eurasian shamanism”, which allowed to logically clarify and specify the process of the ancient Greek poetry and philosophy in the complex socio-cultural dynamics of the formation of the ancient cultural-civilizational system.
