The role of the immune system in the development of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is confirmed by the discovery of an association between PNH and certain allelic variants of the genes of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (HLA genes). Moreover, the mechanisms of such associations remain unclear. Perhaps this depends on the functional properties of certain molecules of the major histocompatibility complex.
