Autoethnography as an Instrument of Book Science

Book science uses methods and approaches of different specializations, which provides an opportunity to add to the knowledge about books as an object of culture among other things. The paper provides an overview of existing types of autoethnograhy of the researcher, when personal experience of a research is the main object of study. Outlined are the main difficulties of organizing autoethnographic research and ways of solving them. Current state of publications of autoethnography in Russian is briefly characterized. Provided are the arguments for perspectives of using autoethnography in book science, moreover it is suggested that autoethnography should be used not only in the form of analysis of the “self-description” of a reader- “Other”, but primarily in the form of analysis of the book researcher’s own experience as an individual who is included in book culture in its different aspects, as a member of a community connected to book culture.
