Статья посвящена методологическим вопросам бердвотчинга в условиях развития нишевых видов туризма. Подчеркивается особая актуальность и значимость бердвотчинга как в рекреационной, так и в природоохранной деятельности. Авторами проведен анализ научных публикаций по теме, выявленные актуальные и перспективные направления современных исследований, а также проблемы и недостатки, которые нуждаются в более подробном изучении. Так авторы отмечают обилие терминов, обозначающих наблюдение за птицами в их естественной среде обитания: бердинг, бердвотчинг, твитчинг, орнитологический туризм, авитуризм. В статье предпринята попытка разграничить эти термины, охарактеризовать каждый из них. Авторами вводится в научный оборот используемый в западном сегменте термин авитуризм (птичий туризм), который отражает тенденцию вовлечения в бердвотчинг урбанизированных и маргинализированных территорий. Авторами подробно рассматривается феномен городского бердвотчинга, его значимость и успешные практики. В статье также проведена классификация современных видов и форм бердвотчинга, орнитологического и авитуризма, и рассмотрены отдельные успешные практики их организации. Проведенное исследование позволило сделать ряд важных методологических выводов о соотношении понятий бердвотчинга, орнитологического туризма и авитуризма, их феноменологии и влиянии на развитие природоориентированного туризма в целом.
