The phenomenon of self-awareness in theological science belongs to theologoumena. This publication attempts to study the phenomenon of self-awareness, which has been little studied in the theological literature. Different authors introduce their own definitions of the term “selfawareness”. The article highlights the consonant thoughts on the problem of self-awareness among some theologians and religious philosophers, each of whom introduces two terms to denote two types of self-awareness that are inextricably and inseparably linked to each other. These scientists define the first type of self as “self-existent,” “feeling of self,” “deep self,” “self as being in oneself.” And the second type is “self-conscious self”, “real self”, “empirical self” and “being for oneself”. The phenomenon of human self-awareness is considered in the light of the Orthodox teaching about God and is associated with the discovery by a person of his “God-loving” or “God-resisting” unconscious, as well as with the choice of which side of his unconscious to develop.
