The paper analyzes the creative reception of Ch. Dickens in three works by I. S. Shmelev. Allusions to various works of the English writer are revealed in the epic «The Sun of the Dead» (1923) and the short story «Two Letters» (1924). In the short story «A Lieutenant's Letter» (1920) the names of all characters are adopted from the novel «Dombey and Son», but the features of these characters are modified. The author comes to the conclusion that Shmelev creates in his works a synthetic image of the artistic world of Dickens as the epitome of English culture.
