The Far East in Contemporary Russia-China Relations

Thanks to its unique geographic location and abundant natural resources, the Russian Far East has become the main platform for a comprehensive strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China. Against the backdrop of the synergy between Russia's "Pivot to the East" strategy and China's "Belt and Road" initiative, both sides have built a system of cooperation encompassing energy, infrastructure, economics and trade, humanitarian affairs, and other areas. Taking into account the established Russian-Chinese partnership in the Far East, the article analyzes the practical interactions between the two countries, current challenges and opportunities for modernizing international relations. We have described the most relevant and long-term areas of cooperation and defined the role of the Far East in Russia-China Relations.
