Dasein in Russia: revisiting the issue of translation

Бесплатный доступ

The article considers the reception of M. Heidegger’s heritage in Russia in the 1990s, the mythologization of his philosophy and, in particular, of the Dasein concept, which is still considered as virtually untranslatable. The author critically examines the most common ways of translating this concept into Russian ( Dasein , presence, here-being), and then offers his own way. The main characteristics of Dasein that should be preserved in the translation are beingness, concreteness, vitality, temporality and mortality, which constitute Dasein in Heidegger’s philosophy. The closest in meaning to Dasein is its original meaning - “existence”, but such a translation would be too abstract and would lose the concreteness given by the prefix da. The Russian language allows to set specifics with an ending: here-being, there-being, presence is nothing else but what exists, or who exists, He Who Is - a rethought of biblical Ego sum qui sum, which completely conveys the meaning of Dasein . The author takes into account the possible difficulties of such an interpretation of Dasein
