Diagnostics of law enforcement officers’ personal professional predisposition

Introduction. The paper studies the problem of diagnosing personal professional predisposition, which is necessary for effective selection of the candidates for service in law enforcement agencies. Materials and Methods. As an instrument used to estimate professionally important qualities and implement the diagnostics among officers O.Lipmann job profile questionnaire, psychological methods, regression models of assessing whether candidates fit for service were employed (23 experts: law enforcement chief police officers, their deputies and subordinates, officers who served more than five years). Results and Discussion. Personal professional predisposition is considered as a generalized quality corresponding to professional requirements and including not only professionally important but also personal potentialities and complementary personal qualities necessary to be regarded during the selection. It is stated that difference in professional qualities when studying different professions requires selective diagnostics and assessment of effectiveness of certain people with respect to certain activity. Three types of analytical activity are used to examine the results of the officers’ psychological testing; the research includes the calculations of statistical differences of experimental samples, which prove that both the requirements and psychological features of the personnel from different departments vary. The author presents the content and mathematical models as guidelines for assessment of the officers’ personal professional predisposition. Conclusions. Personal professional predisposition is presented as a model of a person who is being professionalized and being a dyad where the system of officers’ dominant, generalized qualities and the requirements set for optimal professional functioning of a specialist are compared.
