Dynamics of value-need orientations and emotional comfort of students during their study at the university

The problem of emotional and psychological changes in the students’ personality in the process of higher professional education obtaining is discussed in the paper. The subject of the study is the value-need restructuring of the personality and the psychological conditions caused by it, indicating the student adaptation. The data of an empirical study of 144 students are carried out twice using the methodology “Value-need orientations rating”. The values are grouped by significance level and needs by degree of satisfaction. It is noted that in the system of students’ value preferences from the 1st to 3rd study year, individual positive changes occur, indicating the preference of active adaptation strategies. The characteristics of students’ emotional comfort, due to the ability to meet personally significant needs, are compared. The state of emotional discomfort was diagnosed in 15 % of 1st year students. The positive dynamics of the students’ psychological state in the learning process is statistically confirmed, however, 15 % of respondents recorded a decrease in the level of emotional comfort by 3rd year. It is concluded that when developing programs of psychological and pedagogical support for students, one should take into account the individual value-need profile and the level of emotional comfort.
