Dogmatics of the orthodox catholic church by Panagiotis Trembelas as a textbook of dogmatic theology

The article provides an overview of the largest textbook of dogmatic theology in modern Greek history. Its content is completely described, and an assessment is given in comparison with the similar work of Christos Andrutsos, as well as with other Orthodox dogmatic manuals of the first half of the 20th century. It is noted that the work of Trembelas was created at a turning point for Greek theology, when it began to turn to an in-depth study of the Eastern holy fathers and Russian Orthodox thinkers. Therefore, Trembelas, creating his Dogmatics mainly according to traditional academic models, included in it elements of contemporary theological achievements in the field of soteriology and ecclesiology. A distinctive feature of the work was an extensive selection of biblical and patristic quotations, which the author organized in such a way that the material itself was largely expounded by the sayings of holy fathers. Dogmatics was received with mostly positive reviews as one of the largest and most important expositions of Orthodox doctrine, but was also criticized for being outdated and scholastic.
