The article considers the essence of the documentary-historiographic complex as an effective methodology for designing a modern history lesson at school. The authors note the versatility of the use of documentary and historiographic complexes in various types of practical work of the teacher: day, after-school, design and research. Updating the use of this methodology meets the requirements of historical, cultural and federal educational standards. The study shows options for using the documentary-historiographic complex on the example of studying the topic «Great Reforms of Alexander II».
