The article defines the main internal and external factors promoting learners' cognitive activity and underlines their role in forming students' cognitive activity. The authors present the results of the analysis and quantitative estimate of the students' cognitive activity when they study natural science disciplines. The authors have found forms of learning and types of tasks which are of great interest to the students.
