Progress affects the formation of mass consciousness. It raises the level of civilization, gives birth to new ways of perception and creativity, changes spiritual culture. In the new conditions, the spheres of cognition as a whole are transformed, due to this, new aspects of scientific knowledge are revealed, the specifics of new disciplines emerging at the junction of traditional scientific directions, such as semiotics, cybernetics, information theory, etc. All this requires philosophical reflection. The boundaries of not only scientific disciplines, but also types of arts are becoming mobile. For example, editing originated as a technical means of cinematography, but in the process of development, it became decisive for creative thinking. The relevance of the research lies in the fact that in the works devoted to the study of the fashion phenomenon, sometimes there was an unconscious confusion of the concepts of "fashion" and "costume modeling", as well as their aesthetic functions. This does not fully reveal the specifics of "fashion design" as a direction in design. Until today, the theory of fashion and the formation of the costume did not reflect significant changes in the worldview of the twentieth century, which affect the nature of the phenomenon itself and the fundamental attitudes in the field of costume design.
