The article traces the folklore-ethnographic and teaching activities of A.K. Konchevsky in Central Asian republics in 1931-1937. This period of life of an enthusiastic amateur ethnographer, whose name is more widely known in connection with his recording of musical and oral folklore of Crimean peoples and his performances of Crimean songs in the 1920s, remains virtually unstudied. While teaching vocal lessons to aspiring singers in Central Asian republics (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan), Konchevsky also collected folklore and ethnographic material. The results include the story “The Rope-Walker” and a manuscript containing Uzbek, Tatar, Kazakh, Uyghur, Pamir, Oirot, Tajik, Turkmen, and Afghan proverbs and folktales. This article uses little known archival material from the Russian National Museum of Music.
