The authors show the experience of forming research competencies of high school students as a result of the implementation of the draft presidential grant fund. The study provides various approaches to the definition of the research competencies concept. Their composition was allocated based on psychological and pedagogical literature analysis. The criteria, methodologies and the results of diagnosing the formation of research competencies of high school students in such criteria as cognitive, motivational, indicative and operational components are presented. The main stages of design work implementation on the subject areas such as biology, chemistry, mathematics, geography, and physics are highlighted. The authors argue that the most effective forms of work on the formation of research competencies of high school students are work in mini-groups, groups, project development, defense of a project, and experiments.
