The formation of students’ communicative competence in the process of teaching foreign languages in a non-linguistic university

In this article, the authors consider the problem of the formation of communicative competence. Language education is a matter of paramount importance in the modern world. Authors emphasize that the main goal of language education is the formation of communicative competence, which in turn consists of linguistic, sociolinguistic, sociocultural, strategic, discursive and social competencies. In the formation of communicative competence, it is necessary to familiarize students not only with the peculiarities of the use of lexical units, but also with the cultures of other countries and peoples. In the learning process, such mechanisms as memory, attention, thinking and speech are involved. The success of the implementation of language education also depends on the methodological principles on which the teacher relies when conducting pedagogical activities. The teacher establishes contact with students, comes up with the most effective ways of presenting material. The cooperation of the teacher with students, in turn, is based on approaches, the most important of which is the personality-based approach. In the implementation of a competent approach to the organization of tasks at various stages, the communicative competence of students is formed. It is important to pay special attention to the lexical aspect of language education. Modern technical means make it possible to use a wide range of tasks at all stages of training. Authors conclude that it is necessary to take into account the level of language proficiency, the degree of motivation of students, their involvement in the educational process, the psychological component - the ability to isolate from memory the lexical units applicable in a particular situation.
