The research focuses on the development of cultural identity among pre-school students in early engineering education. The author investigates international approaches to pre-school STEM learning, considers the role of modern children’s television and animation in developing education, and describes children’s reference books about the history of inventions and science (for children aged 3). The study reveals the lack of capacity to develop the Russian cultural identity in the context of early engineering education. The author identifies the following trends: the dominance of reprinted western children’s science fiction books about science and technology innovation in Russia and the shortage of Russian illustrated reference books for pre-school and primary school students, the lack of information about Russian scientists and inventors in children’s popular literature, the interpretation of Russian inventions as incomplete prototypes that are difficult to be implemented.
