The active process of establishing international relations leads to the expansion of business communication, cultural and information exchange, strengthening of interaction and mutual influence of societies in various spheres of life, including professional. Due to the development of official contacts, joint ventures and private business, the need for specialists in the field of economics, management, finance, information technology, mastering any foreign language, is constantly growing. This article deals with the problem of lexical and grammar skills formation as one of the foreign language competence components of students studying at the Institute of Facultative Education of Samara State Technical University, in the major "Translator in the sphere of professional communication". There’s no doubt that students who wish to receive facultative education under this program often have multi-level training. In this regard, it is very important to conduct an intensive course with students to minimize the difference in the level of language training. This article discusses the use of “Jazz Chants” as a way of forming lexical and grammar skills in order to minimize or equalize the level of foreign language competence at the initial stage in a quite short period of time. Numerous advantages of using chants at foreign language classes are shown, namely, the rapid memorization of lexical units in the context of a particular grammatical structure, the consolidation of pronunciation and listening skills, the creation of less formal environment and it all leads to increased mental activity of students
