The research discusses the educational activities aimed at developing self-management skills among water transport institute students in educational institutions of secondary vocational education. The study analyzes various psychological instructional approaches to defining the concept of self-management of students. The authors tested first- and third-year students of Yakut Institute of Water Transport on the level of self-management skills development by Peysakhov technique. The paper describes the psychological instructional techniques (axiological, cognitive and motivational) that enhance the self-government skills of students and develop the professional competence of future water transport experts in the Arctic context. The retest proves the effectiveness of psychological counseling of students conducted by means of the above-mentioned techniques and reveals the positive dynamics at all development stages of self-management skills among students.
