Among the priority tasks of modern preschool education are the sociocultural development and formation of civic identity in preschoolers. At the same time, the lack of precision in the conceptual and terminological framework within the context of preschool education concerning the terms “civic identity” and “sociocultural identity” often leads to confusion or substitution of these concepts. The aim of the article is to elucidate the content of the interdisciplinary concepts of “civic identity” and “sociocultural identity” and to determine their interrelation respect to preschool-aged children. The views of individual scholars on these concepts are examined. The functions of civic identity in the sociocultural development of preschoolers are identified and characterized.
