The article examines the appearance and functioning of neologisms (words, phrases, phraseological expressions) entering the language in connection with such processes of modern society as globalization, migration, intercultural communication, integration, urbanization, development and change of social relations. Neologisms arise as new words and expressions created to denote new objects or to express new concepts. Neologisms are often also referred to as loanwords. Neologisms are time-varying and relative: a word remains a neologism as long as the speakers perceive it to be new. Neologisms are usually formed in different ways according to the laws of the respective language, according to its productive models of word formation. Neologisms have a variety of functions and are used for different purposes. Each neologism must pass the test of public speech practice in order to gain a place in the vocabulary of a language and become an element of that vocabulary. As soon as a new word or phrase begins to be used frequently and becomes common, it is assimilated and ceases to stand out from the rest of the vocabulary. The new words mastered by the language are no longer part of neologisms. As long as new concepts appear in society, neologisms will inevitably appear in the language.
