The article deals with the functioning of the word “pearl” in the Russian language, borrowed from the Chinese language through the Turkic mediation. There are revealed the original and figurative meanings recorded in the dictionaries and unfixed but used in fiction. The author analyzes the word-formative activity of this lexeme and the established collocations with it.
