Gender equality in Russia: to the question of historical development

The article examines the peculiarities of the formation of gender equality in Russia. The author analyzes the factors that influenced the centuries-old formation and consolidation of the principle of gender equality in Russian legislation. Besides, the article raises the question of the formation of the women's movement in the struggle for their rights in the XX century. The distinctive features of the ideology of feminism and Marxism in the Soviet period are highlighted. The normative legal acts issued by the Soviet state that consolidate the position of women in socialist society are analyzed. The article examines the gradual recognition and legislative consolidation of equality of rights and freedoms of men and women by the world community in general and Russia in particular.
