Artificial intelligence is a rapidly developing phenomenon, the understanding of which is the subject of a significant corpus of research in various fields of science. Since generalizations are expressed in the development of definitions and in sciences oriented toward identifying general patterns, the work of developing a definition in the philosophy of culture will appear to be both a new and an actual task. The definition that the author of the article aims at also has practical significance, since it is proposed for use not only in the philosophy of culture, but also as a cultural-philosophical view of artificial intelligence, which can provide legal scholars with additional information in developing their understanding of artificial intelligence. Analyzing the history of the emergence of artificial intelligence, the author of the article joins in a debate aimed at clarifying not only the facts, but also the substantive foundations that formed the ideas of scientists who stood at the origins of work on AI. At the same time, the article reflects not only gaps not filled by other authors or interpretations that allow for criticism, but also the strengths of the research of legal scholars. The result of this article is the development of a definition of artificial intelligence, which may be of interest to both cultural philosophers and scholars interested in the cultural conditioning of law.
