The work describes the fundamental approaches to the formation of the concept "linguistic personality" in the history of West European philosophical thought. It covers the structure of the concept and observes the dynamics of its definition evolution in cultural linguistics. The work provides the methodological substantiation of the basic components of linguistic personality, including sociocultural and individual components that are presented in their structural unity. It reveals the factors that influence the formation of linguistic personality in general: the influence of national culture, individual way of thinking, world perception, personal psychological characteristics, social experience and aesthetic vision of world. The work gives the analysis of philosophical views of several leading West European thinkers of the 18th - 20th centuries, such as J. G. Herder, W. von Humboldt, F. de Saussure, M. Heidegger, J. L. Weisgerber, E. Sapir, E. Benveniste.
