Global and glocal urban codes as variety of cultural codes of modern major cities

Бесплатный доступ

The article discusses the theory of global (GUK) and local (GlUK) urban codes, developed on the basis of P. Bourdieu’s habitus concept, R. Robertson’s glocalization concept, concepts of the cultural code (Y.M. Lotman, U. Eco, R. Barth, etc.). The urban code is a habitual formation, through which an integral system of representations of a certain social group (or society as a whole) about the city, urban environment, urban planning, etc. is represented. Modern urban codes are represented by global (“coinciding” with the globalization trend) and glocal codes; the latter are aimed at preserving the uniqueness of the holistic image of certain cities.
